Which teams should I draft in 2018?
The NHL is getting a new look next season, but there’s a big difference between an old-school style of play and a modern, modern-day style.
The NHL’s commissioner says the league is trying to evolve, and the players are embracing it.
It’s time to get real about the modern-era NHL, commissioner Gary Bettman told NHL.com on Tuesday.
Here’s the thing, though: Bettman said he doesn’t think the NHL’s current approach is the best.
“I don’t think we’re in a place to be doing it right,” he said.
“We’re not in a position to be in the same league, and we need to be a better organization and a better player and a bigger team and a lot of different things that go into it.”
What does this mean for the NHL?
It means that the NHL needs to find a way to bring back some of the older, traditional hockey that was once a part of the NHL, but now is gone.
How did we get here?
Bettman was asked if there’s any reason to think that this is a one-time event.
“Yes,” he replied.
“But the thing is, we’re going to continue to try to improve the game in a number of ways.”
When asked if he thinks the NHL can still get back to being the league it was in the 1970s and 1980s, Bettman responded, “I think so.
I think so.”
He did not specify what those ways were.
How do we make the best of this?
Bettmen said the league wants to create a system that would allow it to do things like buy out a team and move it to a new city.
“If we’re not going to get rid of teams, we’ve got to try and find a solution that’s more sustainable than the current system,” he added.
When Bettman spoke to NHL.tv on Tuesday, he did not say how many teams he believes the NHL should be able to buy out and relocate.
But if the NHL moves from the North American Hockey League to a European-based league in 2021, Bettmen could make it happen.
What about the players?
Some players are already thinking about the prospect of moving to Europe.
“I think it’s really important that we get our game in the right shape, and this is something that I think the league needs to focus on and do well,” forward Matt Duchene told reporters.
“The more players we have playing in the NHL right now, the better the game will be.”
Will the league become more structured in order to attract new talent?
Bettmans stated that he expects that to happen.
“There’s a lot that’s on the table right now,” he told reporters on Tuesday night.
There’s a whole other set of things that need to happen before they decide to make a move.” “
The players are going to have to make that decision for themselves.
There’s a whole other set of things that need to happen before they decide to make a move.”
